We would also suggest the following supplements and herbs:

Chamomile tea: Helps relieve muscle spasms and acts as a nerve relaxant. Sip 2 cups of tea per day, 1 week prior to your cycle. Benefits may be felt if it’s done monthly.

Fennel seeds: Foeniculum vulgare: Brings relief. When your cycle starts take 30mgs of extract 4x per day for 3 days.

Cinnamon: Less bleeding, pain, nausea and vomiting. Take 840mg Cinnamon 3x per day for the first 3 days of your cycle.

Ginger: Zingiber officinale: Pain relief as effective as ibuprofen. Grate a small piece of ginger root into a glass of hot water for a cramp-relieving drink.

Dill: Very effective for menstrual cramps. Take 1000mg per day for 5 days, starting 2 days before your cycle.

Turmeric: Curcumin is a great anti-inflammatory. Try 2 capsules for 7 days prior to your cycle and for 3 days after.

Apply heat: A hot water bottle or a heating pad brings great comfort.

Pressure massage points:

  1. 2 finger-widths below your belly button. Place the middle finger onto the point, then place the index and ring fingers down, to press as well. Gently press down, while taking deep breaths. Hold it for 1 minute.
  2. 4 Finger widths below the belly button and repeat.
  3. Inner ankle: 4 finger-widths above the ankle bone. Press with the thumb and hold for 1 minute while breathing deeply. Repeat on the other leg.
