Limit alcohol: Over 90% of alcohol is metabolised in the liver. Drinking too much alcohol reduces your liver’s ability to carry out its normal detox functions.
Focus on sufficient sleep: The only time your body can heal itself is when you are asleep. Sleep allows your brain to recharge itself and allows the body to remove toxic waste by-products that have accumulated throughout the day.
Drink more water: Your body is 70% water. Water does more than just quench your thirst. In-fact they say if you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated! Water regulates your body temperature, aids digestion and nutrient absorption, lubricates joints and helps to remove waste products thereby aiding detoxification. The cells break down nutrients to be used as energy. In the process, waste is released, in the form of urea and carbon dioxide, which cause harm if left to build up in the blood. Water helps remove these toxins via urination, breath or sweat. So, water is essential for detoxification.
Reduce your intake of sugar and processed foods: High quantities have been linked to heart disease, cancer, diabetes and other chronic diseases. They harm the organs (liver and kidneys) related to naturally detoxifying the body. Choose healthy snacks instead. Limit availability by not buying them.
Eat foods high in antioxidants: Anti-oxidants protect your cells against harmful molecules called free radicals. Excessive production of free radicals causes oxidative stress. Excessive free radicals are caused by smoking, alcohol, poor diet/nutrition and exposure to pollutants. The damage to the cells can cause chronic dis-eases: heart conditions, liver diseases, asthma, various cancers and dementia.
- Foods are rich in anti-oxidants ~ Berries, fruits, nuts, cocoa, vegetables, spices, coffee and green tea.

Lessen salt intake: Especially if you have a condition affecting your kidneys or liver or you don’t drink enough water. When your body is retaining water, one of the best things to do is to drink more water, to help flush the system. Too much salt and not enough water produces an anti-diuretic hormone that prevents you from urinating (detoxing). Drinking more water flushes this toxin out increases urination and eliminates waste products.
- Increasing Potassium-rich foods also helps, as it counterbalances the salt effects. Foods rich in potassium: Potatoes, squash, kidney beans, bananas, spinach.
